At the 16th session of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Conservation International introduced the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) GEF-8 Ecosystem Restoration Integrated Program (ERIP) during a high-level side event focused on innovative solutions to land degradation.

The event spotlighted ERIP as a leading example of how global partnerships can unite finance and policy to accelerate ecosystem restoration.

Led by Conservation International, ERIP is a six-year, $200 million initiative supporting restoration efforts across 20 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The session emphasized the importance of integrated approaches to combat desertification, support local communities, and build climate resilience. ERIP’s model—bringing together governments, implementing agencies, and civil society—demonstrates how coordinated action can deliver large-scale impact.

Panelists from Peru, Mauritania, WWF, and GEF discussed strategies to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN), community engagement, innovative partnerships, and tools for supporting UNCCD goals.

Watch the event recap and learn more about ERIP’s role in global restoration efforts.
