From planning to implementation
Led by Madagascar’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the workshop marked IREMA’s transition from project preparation to implementation. Funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the initiative contributes to ERIP’s broader objective of advancing ecosystem restoration across countries.
The inception workshop focused on the project’s objectives, implementation approach, and expected results. Particular attention was given to mobilizing investments for the restoration of degraded forest, agricultural, and pastoral landscapes, while ensuring activities respond to local socio-economic realities and community priorities.
The ERIP Global Coordination Project, led by Conservation International, also participated in the workshop, presenting the global vision of ERIP and highlighting how Madagascar’s IREMA project connects to broader international restoration efforts.
Expanding engagement at the regional level
Following the national launch, regional inception workshops will be organized across the project’s intervention areas to strengthen local coordination and support implementation on the ground.
Through an integrated landscape approach, the IREMA project aims to support Madagascar’s ongoing efforts to address ecosystem degradation and promote more sustainable and resilient landscapes.
