From dialogue to practice: global lessons on restoration and protected areas

Convened by the Global Wildlife Program (GWP) and the China–World Bank Group Global Center for Ecological Systems and Transitions (CWGC), the workshop brought together participants from across regions to share experiences on PCA planning, management, governance, financing, restoration, and effectiveness.

The exchange offered an opportunity for ERIP countries to learn from peers, contribute to panel discussions, and share practical experiences with countries involved in GWP and other Global Environment Facility-supported programs. Mônica Barcellos Harris, ERIP Global Coordination Project Lead, Conservation International, also participated, delivering a framing presentation on the role of ecosystem restoration in strengthening PCA systems and landscape connectivity.

The program included two field visits, among them a visit to the Sichuan Giant Panda Habitat / Giant Panda National Park, where participants explored restoration efforts aimed at improving habitat quality and connectivity for giant pandas. The visit also highlighted broader approaches to species conservation, community engagement, and nature education.
